Planters JD 290 2 row planter

I recently purchased an old corn planter, and was wondering if anyone knows where I can get parts? Also if anyone has any experiance operating this unit any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried your Deere dealer? I would expect you can get parts there. You may not like the price, and may find them cheaper, but that you can find them at all should be worth it. There likely are some used ones parted out somewhere too, but often the worn part you are looking for is also worn on the parted out ones that you might find. Good luck.

Sorry, no help for your question, but a related question. How big of a tractor (hp) does it take to operate a 2 row corn planter? That would be a handy item for my food plots.

How big? Not big. Any CUT will pull one, easily. A bigger tractor is needed to prepare the ground for planting than is needed to pull the two row planter. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The fertilizer system is shot, I took the row markers off.

I dont use it anymore, now I just broadcast.

Whereabouts in Alpena? My buddy has a cottage on Thunder bay on northpoint rd.

I believe 490s and 690s are all the same as 290 just more rows. You might be able to buy these cheaper (Sorta like plows, the 4row can be had for same price as 2row)
