My father-in-law was mowing last week and his FC540V engine did the classic counterbalance "break and throw" about the worst I've ever seen.. It took off the entire front of the engine and even bent the shroud so some even larger parts could make it out !
I was out of the country working so he called the deere dealer and had them deliver a new x300. That will be another rant for another post some other time.. Anyway, he called me over the Labor Day weekend and had me come and get the 265..
He bought it new 20 years ago.. He's in his mid 80s now and for sure doesn't overload anything and never did.. The point being, a lot of this tractor is still in good shape.. It has the heavy tuff-tork axle,, even the seat is good.
Also, each year he would call the dealer and have them pick it up and "get it ready" for the mowing season.. I know in the last couple seasons he had a new coil installed (another common problem on 540Vs). Then some spindle work on the deck,,, fuel pump recently, ect.ect... He was always having stuff done and till a few days ago it did cut well and smooth..
The reason I'm posting this besides just another broke block story is because I was wondering if there is a demand anymore for these things for parts ? I don't have time to take it apart, but was wondering what it was worth if any ? Thanks
