JD 2520 Two Year Battery Issue

I have seen on this forum that others have had the 2 year battery issue. Lately when I would try to start my 2520 it would act like a dead battery but would try to start. I would keep trying and once it would turn over it would start the tractor. Once it started I could use it then shut it off then restart it and would have no problem the rest of the day. Then the next morning it would be the same issue like a dead battery but after trying to start it would turn over just enough to start. The alt was fine and the tractor would charge the battery during the day. So I took the battery to my dealer and had them put a battery tester on it and check it with a load he said it was fine. I told him about my issue and he said it could be a bad cell or two no way of knowing since it is a sealed battery. I asked parts if the prorate the battery and they said if the battery has a B Guarantee it has a 3year guarantee so they did prorate it new battery 120 minus the 40 prorate so new battery 80 better than 120. Installed battery tractor started like it was new the real test is in the morning but I think it will be fine now. My tractor and battery just turned 2 years so the curse if the 2 year battery issue is alive and well still. I do feel that the sealed battery had 1 or 2 bad cells which is why it had just enough power to start the tractor barely. I hope this helps anyone with the same battery problem in the future.

Just a note I have a JD455 that has a battery that is still fine after 10 years.

the batteris on the 2210/2305 and the 2320 are notorious for going bad in just a few years.. Mine was a tad over 3 yrs old and started so I could mow, then when I shut it down it would not restart.. I replaced it with an AutoZone battery for about $110 with a much better warranty than the JD dealer wanted (3 yr replacement - 8 yr total VS 1 yr)

I just had to replace my 2305 battery. Just over two years old. It was however pro-rated and cost me $65 after the core charge was deducted.

My battery only lasted one winter. Dealer checks and says it is fine but after I complained enough they gave me a new one. Have kept it on a maintainer all the time now so hope that problem is fixed. JD not living up to high standards anymore.

I honestly don't get it. I have had 2 tractors 6 between the two and even had one run the battery dead and still never had an issue.

I don't run a battery maintainer on them. Usually gets ran once a week, sometimes for under an hour but every once in a while it gets ran for 4 hours straight. I'm not bragging and if anything I am hard on the tractor. Not abusive but I live on rough terrain. Maybe the rough terrain keeps the plates clean or something?

If I had to keep a battery maintainer on mine 24/7 to insure it would start I would consider the battery to be defective. I can see the value of keeping the battery hot in very cold northern climates when you need to blow snow at 5am. With over thirty batteries to maintain and pay for I use WalMart Maxx for things that get used frequently and have a few Odyssey and DieHard Platinums agm batteries for campers and boat. The Odyssey batteries are by far the best I have found these will hold a charge for six months with ease. The WalMart everstart maxx batteries are a good value though and I have very few problems with them, and at about $80 each these offer a lot of bang for the buck. My experience with Deere branded batteries is they usually last two or three years but the replacement cost is too high.

Interstate battery had a exact replacement for around $82 with our 6.25 tax
