The entire switch needs to be replaced. It snaps into place and you need to depress the tabs at either end of the switch that hold it in place in order to remove the switch.
The easiest way to do this is to find two thin pieces of metal to use as "tools" to depress the tabs. Very slightly pry up on one end of the switch using a very small flat blade screw driver from the side of the switch. Insert the piece of metal at the end of the switch and push in and hold in - that should depress the tab at that end of the switch.
You should be able to pull up on the switch enough to get the switch past the tab indents. Repeat at the other end of the switch and pull the entire switch out of the opening. Remove the wires, take the switch to the JD dealer and get a new switch.
To replace the switch, put the wires onto the switch and just push it back into the hole. The tabs will depress against the side of the switch and when it is seated against the dash, the tabs will spring back into place and the indent in the tabs will seat on the dash.
