In recent searches on noise/vibrations on the JD 2305, I came across references to the engine to transmission U-Joint wear. Evidently some JD2305s have either 0, 1, or 2 grease fittings, none of which are mentioned in the operator manual (thanks JD). Mine appears to have no fittings, but I will double check tomorrow. Having not had to deal with any failed U-Joints in the past, what is considered normal and what would be the tale-tale signs of wear I should be looking for. I now have close to 300 hours with no additional grease, but I don't have a good feel as to whether this is significant in the grand scheme of things. The shaft is fairly straight which I assume should lower wear significantly.

Finally, how often would one recommend I lube these joints going forward, since they are kind of a pain to get to?

Unless you submerge them under water they will likely last 20 years. A bad u-joint makes some terrible noises, grinding and banging in particular. 300 hours is insignificant.
