JD 2305
I wanted a front dethatcher for my 2305 so after looking around on TBN I put this together. I took a few ideas from several different styles. The nice part is that it comes off by just disconnecting the hydraulic lines and pulling out the one long 3/4" pin that goes through the frame.

No problems steering, plus it's pretty easy to lift with the hydraulics.

That's pretty nice. I've been thinking of building one for the rear of the tractor but I might build one for the front after seeing yours. I bought the tines a few weeks ago but haven't had time to get started on it.

I have a few questions:
What size is the hydraulic cylinder?
What do you have going through the center of the tines?
What's the size of the dethatcher?

Nice! Where did you find the tines? I've looked around online, and they seem to run several to fifteen dollars each

You can get them from TSC but like you said, they seem to run several dollars on up. I bought mine from TSC.

I don't remember if I paid the same price as the online price or if they were cheaper in the store. There are times that the store price is cheaper than the online price.

You might be able to get them from a dealer also, but I don't know if you would save any money.

The hydraulic cylinder is 6" pin center to pin center when retracted and 12" when extended. It came off of the 54" JD snow blade I had on my 318 tractor. The same cylinder is used on the Quick Hitch for the 2305 front snow blower, sweeper, etc.

The 1/4" rod going through the center of the tines is there to try and catch a tine if it breaks. I figured with the dethatcher on the front the tine would be picked up by the mower deck and sent up the power flo unit for the material collection system. It will catch the tine if the bolt comes out, but that is unlikely since I'm using nylon lock nuts. I have an idea for tying the straight piece of the tine back to this rod which should cover a tine that breaks from fatigue.

The frame that holds the tines is 60" x 10". I used 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 x 1/8 box tubing for most of the pieces. The angles that hold tines are 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 x 1/8 - 57" long. The front push bar that mounts to the frame is 2 x 4 x 1/8 box tubing 30" long.

The brackets that attach the tine frame to the main frame are slotted. This allows me to loosen four bolts and adjust the height of the tines off the ground. Once I set the correct height I'll probably never change it again. I bought the John Deere 14T 24T 214 Baler Teeth online from The Smart Farmer.

The pneumatic casters are 6" diameter wheels that I bought from Northern Tools. The had a grease fitting on the caster bearing but nothing on the axle shaft. I drilled down the centers of each axle bolt with an exit hole in the middle of the wheel. I installed grease fittings on the bolt heads so now I can lube the axles.

Nice work! I have thought for years about making one that would fit on the front quick-hitch. I like your idea much better. I'm glad I didn't waste my time on my idea because I would have to make another one.

I thought about using the Quick Hitch for the mount also. The problem is that my front PTO shaft is the new type with the CV joint and it stays with the front PTO bracket. There's no way to have that in place with the mower deck on.

Nick

Can you post a close up picture of the mount.
Like over the 2 O'clock point of the right front tire.
And from the ground up at the mount from just in
front of the right tire.

I think I could adapt something like this to my older JD855 easily enough.
My mower deck front adapter bracket would have room for this, depending on how far it hinges up on the cylinder.

Thanks
Wyo
