Tractor
JD 2210
I have an issue right now. I have a 2005 JD 2210. Plowed some snow a few weeks ago then boom, the tractor died on me after using it for two hours, full tank. Went to turn the key and it only clicked and never turned over.
Had to boost. Started it up and ran fine. A couple weeks later, it stalled again after a couple hours using it. Tractor was on the edge of the road so we towed it out asap. I changed the fuel filter figuring it had gelled or froze.
There was ice build up in the water bowl and the filter had ice thru it. Put a new one in with the hole of the filter up and pushed into the tube. It didn't start right away, battery had been fully charged.
Was only able to start it the next day. Still took awhile, would turn over, but not stay running. Then it finally started with full throttle. Let it run 5-10 mins, then started plowing. Worked with it 5 mins plowing then it shut down again. Got it started and put it in the garage and will find out whats wrong. I'm not a mechanic whatsoever. My assumptions, 1) Failing batter? 2) Failing alternator 3) clogged fuel line 4) failing fuel pump. Fuel pump is original.
Battery is number two bought 4-5 yrs ago. Any suggestions or testing I can do is appreciated. I do have the owners manual on CD too. Last week, I let it run for almost an hour, without using or working with it, then it just shut down. It worked good when I was using it, motor sounded good and not hesitating. But then boom, total shut down. Scary when your kinda in the road a bit and the end of your driveway.
Outside temps have been -10 to -15. Thank you in advance.

UPDATE: Tractor has been in garage all night and it started fine, played with throttle and no lag or hesitation. Will take it out to plow later and see how it works under load and see if it shuts down after use.

Putting your location in your profile may help with an answer to your problem. Think of how helpful that is when reading other posts, to have an idea where from they are located.
But gelling fuel sounds like a good possibility..

I have a JD 5525 and know gelling fuel here is not much of a problem due to temp, and mine was summer anyway, but had issue with mine sort of like yours year or two back and it turned out to be air leak on a fuel filter. It was very small, think a grain of dirt of such was on the gasket. Removed it and wipe all surface and reinstalled and the problem went away. Mine could be issue in cranking depending on how long it had been since tractor was last run. If couple of weeks or longer it could be a bear to start but it also came and went using the tractor.

You could also have a piece of floating trash in fuel tank and in low temps floating ICE if water in fuel.

That is my most probable diagnosis. Lot of guys struggling keEpping their tractors going in the cold. Have only been with forum about 6 months. Is it common on this forum for guys having trouble in the winter??? If it was me having this trouble at 10-15 below I'd get winter blend fuel, cut it with a little kerosene, and add a little power service or howes. That should keep you going in the cold. Just my thoughts. Ps we got more snow coming and zero temps after a little warm up. (Here we go again)

Well, I just updated my profile. Never knew I hadn't done this. Tractor was in my garage over night then I started it and it ran fine. Running like a Deere again!!! I did add some low temp conditioner in the fuel a couple days before.
Changing the iced up fuel filter helped too but I think I had some ice in the lines somewhere too. But it's running great now. This has been the only issue I have ever had with this tractor, fuel gelling. I should pay more attention come winter to add the low temp conditioners in the fuel before it gets cold. Thanks for the tips everyone. Much appreciated!
