Recently bought 52 acres and we are building a new house. I have looked at the JD 2210 and the NH TZ24DA. I will need a tractor for mowing about 6 acres of lawn, snowblowing a driveway that is 650 feet long and possibly a tiller for a large garden. These two tractors seem very comparable in power, ease of use, etc... I can get the NH for about $300.00 less than the JD and NH is offering 48 mos. interest free financing. What's your opinions on either of these tractors as far as reliablity, build quality and general usage??
Thanks,

Chaz /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

PS. I would also consider the Massey Ferguson GC2300 but have not looked at one yet, any thoughts?

If you are planning on doing a lot of the work on building the house, I would look at larger models of tractors.

What I wish I had done when I built my house, was to have bought a used, tracked skid-steer to have during the construction, and then I would have sold it when the house was done.

What I ended up doing was putting a loader on my JD 4100 and making do with that. It was OK for many things, but under-sized for heavy lifting, and not at all big enough to do any serious excavating.

Even after the house is done, 52 acres is a lot of land. The smaller tractors you are talking about may not be large enough. They will do what you mention on the lawn, the driveway, and a garden, but it would be intersting to know if you plan to do anything with the other 46 acres?

The JD 4010 is $300 less than the 2210 and has dual brakes and cruise control that the 2210 doesn't have. Otherwise, the 2 tractors take essentially the same attachments: loaders are different.

Didn't like where the oil filter is on TZ18 model I saw. Heard that NH puts the brakes on right side, too, like Kubota. JD ergonomics are better, but they surely screwed up by not putting a glow plug light on the dash board.

chaz,

If you are only going to do those things you listed in your post, the 2210 will do them with flying colors /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif I know. But if you are even thinking of expanding into the back forty, then as the others have suggested, think larger. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Could you explain why JD need a glow Plug light?

I live in northern IN and started my JD at -5 degrees and

never needed a glow plug light.

Please explain why JD needs a glow plug light?

I have started mine at -5 degrees and never a problem,

why should I have a light?

<font color="green">Ralph, not sure what one would gain from a glow plug light on the dash board. I own a 2210 and when the glow plugs are on, the rest of the dash board lights dim because of the voltage drop that accompanies the high amount of current the glow plugs are drawing.

The flow plug lights are what I'm used to having from driving a diesel Benz for the last 26 years. With the light on the board, you could pause at the ignition key position between "on" and "starter" to let the glow plugs light before going on to "starter". Without the lights, it's impossible to tell when you're there.

What I do (and not in my manual but learned on this forum and with a test light on a glow plug) is to turn to "starter" with the range selector in "H" for 5 seconds, then move selector to "N". The engine starts instantly.

Ralph,

I agree. My 755 had a yellow light that would come on and when it shut off I knew the glow plug was hot enough. It seems like it would only cost pennies. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I am with you Ralph there should be a glow plug indicator light. I have driven other tractors that have them,
and I like them. I like my John Deere but there is room for constructive criticism. That is how newer models get improved.
