Problem: when turning tractor in sharp turns heard thumping noise from front axle differential and put it on work bench. By turning the shaft axles there is some play lengthwise (so towards shaft axles) in the carrier. The differential is a fixed unit with no adjustment ( that's why you buy a whole unit). In the differential there are 4 screws. When removing these screws the thumping noise goes away((?). Now we would like to machine a shim, but how do we pull this differential apart? We think the only option to get to this is, is to remove the seal from the driveshaft, remove the ring gear and then hopefully we can access the differential and pull this apart. Is there anybody that has been pulling the differential apart and how did you do this? Any advise would be very helpful!
Thank you!

:welcome:
You sound like you are deep into this. If no response here, then I'd look close at the tech manual for some help. Do you have it?

Went to dealer and in service manager screen they showed a complete different OEM parts screens for this 2210. ( see new tread) Turned out you can buy all the parts in differential. We ordered a new bushing in the carrier and a rubber seal ( end driveshaft) we probably destroy taking ring gear out. Cost $30 excl. GL5 and UPS. This versus a complete new differential for app.$900.( on line OEM parts)
Plus they gave us all the torque specs.

Hopefully this is all it takes.

Update.
The seal at the end of shaft JD parts.com no.12 was a metal/hard plastic seal. By screwing two screws in the seal and using a metal shim on shaft I was able to get torque and drive it out. Driving ring gear out with brass pins and hammer we finally got to brass bushing, no 8. There was wear on this bushing and manually with brass pin drove old one out and new one in.
With normal slack on the carrier now the tractor is working fine.
