Hi All:

Its been guite a while since I've been on (2.5yrs actually). In any event, I was running my 2210 over some brush today and ground up my transmission fan. I went down the road to my dealer and purchased a new fan. However, unless I am missing something, this looks like a major pain to change. It mounts about the main drive shaft and the main drive shaft is snadwiched between the foot deck on top and a whole bunch of framing, etc. on the bottom. Has any one dealt with this issue? I am bringing the tractor in for full-maintenance serviving shortly anyway; is it better just to leave it to them to fix? Also, if anyone has paid for such a job, what was the approx. cost? While mine is a 2210, I am sure the problem would be similarly difficult/simple on a variety of models, so please chime in even if you've got something other than 2210.

Thank you very much,

JDLou

Welcome back Lou:D

This was a big topic about 2-3 years ago on this forum, with some detailed post's about how to change the fan-both the right way, and another way that involved cutting the fan and clamping on the shaft with hose clamps or something like that to save major dis-assembly. Have you tried searching here in this forum?

After you change the fan, a skid plate would be a good idea.

Some members have cut the fan in half after cutting the old fan off the shaft and then glued, screwed, clamped the new one on.

Some have disassembled the tractor detailing what a PIA it was to remove the floor pan, the driveshaft, the driveshaft yoke, reassembling, etc.

Some just let the dealer do it and wept.

Anyway you cut it, it will hurt. Get a firm guestimate from the dealer. Then either be more carefull, leave the mower deck on(if you have one), or install a skid plate which is not compatible with a mid-mount mower. :(

Here is a pic of the skid plate I made. It is not compatible with the oem mmm, but if you have the mmm installed then it essentially IS the skidplate.

Plate attaches with two 3/8" bolts at the loader cross support, one 1/2" bolt at the rear trailer plate, and two U-bolts. On and off in less than 10 mins.

Just trade it in on a 2520, and all your problems go away. Mine sure did! :)

Or get 2320 That will get rid of the fan completely & the low lying oil filter I see deadman did the same thing I did ! If It aint The Fan on my 2305 It is my deck on my 2320 will The Deck is fixed ! That Skidplate is a good Idea cdhd2001 I hope it works well for you ! Those plastic fans where not the best Idea ! Who came up with That Idea !

Hi kennyd et al.:

Okay, I've taken the time to write two semi-long responses to thank you all for your responses and I've messed up the posting twice. If this one succeeds, I'll write back again to advise as to what I am going to do. In the meantime, thank you all for the responses and the pic of that skid plate.

Best,

JDLou
