I'll mostly be mowing, but I'll do some loader/tilling work. What's better? Turf or bar tires? Filled or not? Or something in between?

Thanks

Russell,

The old tire debate will continue to rage long past your decision /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Lots of folks feel that turfs are a poor choice, lots think they're the way to go. Lots feel that bar or ag tires won't hurt a lawn as long as you're not mowing in a monsoon, lots feel they will damage a lawn on turns etc.

I looked at my situation before I bought and decided, like you, that I was going to be mowing primarily with some loader work, driveway maintenance and winter snow removal. I went with the turfs. There have been a handful of times it may have made my life easier to have a more aggressive grip. Overall for my applications, and in my climate, with my soil conditions, turf tires were the best choice.

A search for "turf", "industrial", "bar", or "ag" will likely reveal years of history in the great tire debate. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good luck.

the 2210 Owner's Manual definately spells put tire loading. For your loader work and tilling, it would be a real plus. But still figure on some rear ballast for the FEL.

What about chains for the turfs? Then you'd be able to add traction...

I won't be doing much if it's wet (the tractor will stay in the garage). My lawn isn't "great" yet. The main thing I'm looking at is when I'm doing tilling or FEL work in lose dirt or very hard dirt. I am planning to till my fathers garden and after 1 or 2 passes, it gets really soft. It would be bad to get stuck the 1st time out /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I thought about the front bar/rear turf combo. How much would an extra set of tires/rims costs?

I've never used a tractor this "small" The last tractor I used was a 1988 or 89 model 4000 series (40 hp), and that was 10 years ago. I'm going to have to get used to a small tractor.

I went with turf tires because there are some spots on my property that get soft and mowing with bar tires will tear up these spots. On filled tires i did not get mine filled. i want the tractor lite when mowing. i figured that i will add weight to the back blade and if that is not enough i can always get them filled later.

I made the commitment today. The loader and 62C are on order, and should be here this week. I'll get turf tires since I'll have a tiller and 5' boxblade if I need more weight.

Congrats on the new tractor purchase. I havent got too much seat time since mine was delivered but the time i have spent running around the yard has been fun.

Russell,

I would strongly recommend turfs if you are primarily mowing. I run turfs out here all the time and have never had any problem with grip especially using the loader. My primary use is the loader and box scraper not mowing. I doubt you'll find anywhere wetter than here. (Seattle). My soil is pretty rocky/Sandy though.
