I heard definite grinding the last week when I operated the 4 wheel drive in reverse. Then the front wheels started locking with the rear wheels pulling them.
So at first I thought it was the front diff. Since I hadn't changed the front axle oil ever (429 hours). I emptied the gear oil and their was shavings so I tore it totally down and after inspection noticed very sloppy engagement so I replaced the front diff.
Seems to be much smoother, no backlash and very tight. So front end is totally good now.
Put the thing back together thinking I found the issue but the problem still existed. Now I know its in the rear transmission. Specifically where the 4 Wheel gears mesh when engaged. No issues in 2 wheel, only 4 wheel in reverse. Started tearing down the entire body to get easy access the tranny. Cleaned it all ready to get into the guts of the thing.
Does anyone have a part diagram showing the gears in the JD 2210? I don't want to replace the entire tranny, I think its a bad gear set that powers the front wheels when engaged.
Thanks in advance.
Phil
