JD 2155 handbrake was left engaged.

I let a friend borrow my tractor and the handbrake will not hold the tractor at all now. Is there an adjustment that can be made or will the brake have to be replaced? If so can this be done without breaking the rear ended of the tractor apart? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Looking at JD parts, If the brake band has to be replaced. It looks like left axle housing has to be removed to access.
