Price Check JD 214 wanted to sell need help pricing

I have my Dad's John Deere 214 lawn tractor for sale. I am not sure what it is worth. It runs great and look great. I believe it is a 70's model. He passed away and I need to sell it.

and sorry to hear about your dad...

prices for a tractor like that will vary depending on location,
but around here (upstate NY) they are going for anywheres
from $600 to $1000, it really depends on the condition. If you
have extra attachments, like a snowthrower etc., you may be
able to get a little more for it.
A big question is going to be what condition the mower deck is in.

They were a great old tractor, with a variable speed transmission,
and long lasting Kohler engine. Mower decks ranged from 39", to 46" I
believe.

Searching dealer inventories from Nebraska to New York, I find them listed anywhere from $595 to $1300. Dutch445 is right, the deck is the single most important part of the tractor. The better the shape of the deck, the more value the tractor has, to a point. If you can, take it to the local Deere dealer and have them look at it to give a value. Maybe even have them sell it on consignment for you. Another good place to take it is an ESTABLISHED consignment auction. When I say established, I mean one that draws a lot of customers and has been held in the same spot for a few years. I know, I take things to there to sell, but never buy from there, becouse the sale prices are usually high. We have 3 good ones within 50 miles that are held 2-3 times a year.
