20140324_192240.jpgFound something today on my dad's old tractor. At the front of the drawbar there is a bracket and pin that hold it in place, up under the tractor. One side of the bracket is broke loose. Now I know my dad had used it to bushog with a while back, so I'm not sure when it happened. He's not here any more for me to ask, so I'm wondering if there is a fix. Looks like it keeps it from sliding forward and backwards, the center bolt is still in place, but. Well let me just show a picture.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Ouch that's ugly. Short of replacing the housing (big expensive job) you might find a good welder that can fix it for you. Short of that maybe you can design a bracket that comes off some other bolt holes kind of like a crossmember. Good luck.

Likely why the tractor was used for bush hogging. I wouldn't use the drawbar unless you secured it.

Take the drawbar off until repaired. You or someone not knowing the situation, might break the casting to make the tractor totally unusable.

I agree either R&R trans case or find a talented welder to repair it.

I would think tractor is already unusable, should have lost most if not all hyd oil.

Looked again ,the holes are bolt holes, not going all the way into the case. My bad

I wonder what it took to break that? I have done some hard pulls on tree stumps with my 2030.
The retaining parts for the drawbar do not look correct

That is going to take a lot of metal buildup to fill in those casting holes then drill and tap. Its not going to be a cheap repair regardless of how it is done and likely wont ever be as strong as the original. I think on that old tractor, best to just stop using the belly mount drawbar. You could get one of the fixed 3 point hitch attachments like folks use to put a ball on to pull a trailer with using the small CUT and pull what you needed from that

I like oldtractorfixer's idea, since you have the mower already. Those holes have been broken out for some time by the look of them. Fab a new stronger bracket for some other threaded locations so you can keep using the setup you own.

The only thing I can think is that the rear of the drawbar bottomed out and pushed it out in the front.

What about drawbar attached to 3 point? I would make sure it would be set at standard draw bar height, and not given a chance to raise into the pto.

Most likely the bolts got loose and maybe the other (good) bolts came out. All the stress onto the ones that broke out. It broke the housing and landed on the ground. Probably lost the tight main pin at that time.

Yeah I'm thinking my bolts to my Rops is pretty close to that.. May be able to fabricate a bracket.

20140506_194651.jpgAlright guys. Here was my summer fix for the broken front mount on the draw bar.

I may have went a little overboard. But figured more support is better...

If it is totally idiotic.. Be gentle.

The chain in the upper part (attached to Rops mount) crosses the drawbar right behind the bracket. I didn't want that drawbar moving at all. So the front bracket and pin is still there. Plus the chain going underneath tractor. Then the two pieces of chain on the back to give extra support. I got the chain really tight also.

I think it looks good, not at all "idiotic", only thing I think you might have missed would be forward thrust. Lets say you are pulling a heavy load and have to stop quickly or back into something with draw bar. I think an e-z fix might be to weld a piece of 1/2" stock to top of draw bar tight to back bracket and let back bracket take this thrust. (if you can't weld it yourself you could pull draw bar and take it to welding shop). Only disadvantage I can see to your repair is no swinging draw bar but I think you can live with that. Best of luck to you

One other quick note, Looks like you used all grade 5 bolts I think I would change the bolt out at end of draw bar nearest draw pin to a grade 8. again best of luck

Thanks for the help guys. I like that idea about welding a plate on. **** I could probably do that on bottom too for extra support.

Not sure which grade the bolts are. It was the highest pressure rated that rural king had. At least I think so. Yeah if I could find a harder one I would swap a couple of them out.

If they have 3 marks in the top of bolt they are grade 5, if they have 5 marks they are grade 8, not sure who came up with that system :fiery:, Not sure who posted it but they are right that is not the original bracket and pine. Just keep a close eye on it you sure don't need the other side breaking out.

It looks to have 6 marks on it. Also the is a 01 and an RL on it.

A grade 5 bolt will be tougher in that situation than the harder grade 8, which is more brittle, though stronger.
