I've got a pretty good leak at the top of my pressure control valve. Looking at the parts book, there are 2 o-rings that don't seem to go inside the unit. Do they go between the valve body and the transmission, letting oil out/in the PCV into the rockshaft? If I take the 3 bolts off the PCV, I'm assuming I'll see them in there? But I want to check before I go there. I suppose I need to drain the hyd oil from that plug below the PCV?

Yes you need to drain trans oil or put nozzle of operating shop vacuum in hyd oil filler hole blocking remainder of hole with shop towel. Tes o-rings go between valve housing & trans case.

Thanks Jim, is that internal socket bolt the trans oil drain? I think I read somewhere there are 2 drains? I was thinking about going to HYGuard instead of the aftermarket oil that's in it, but it's been working on that for over 20 years now, I get it at tractor supply, it's a lot less then the JD HyGuard although I think the JD dealer will deal on the price a bit. After looking at the parts book, I saw that the valve attaches to the bottom of the trans, but there's no real clear picture in the parts or Tech manual.

I may have fixed my oil leak, got a new oil pan gasket and used sealant, there was nothing on the old paper gasket, plus some of the screws were loose. I'm pretty sure the rear engine seal was replaced with some other work a while ago, but I could see where the oil was leaking around the pan after power washing it. How do you get those large gaskets on and lined up right while putting on, I hope I got it right.

Trans case drain is plug(key 19) and it shows two(2) plugs but only 1 locationis shown in schematic. Plug specs list it as hex 1.250'' in size

Got it, I was looking at the clutch housing instead of the trans housing in the book. I was thinking the intake screen plug was the drain. I might as well pull that out and clean it while I'm in there. I found the o-rings at the local dealer. The operators manual says 10 gallons for the trans fluid, the dealer said it holds 12 G, I guess there's 2G left in when drained. I'm going to fix the leak before I go to HiGuard if I even do, they want over $100 for 10 gallons. Type 303 special purpose oil it says. Thanks again.

IIIRC 8 to 9 gallons will fill trans case to full mark to be checked with engine idling.

Well instead of draining the trans, I just took out the 3 bolts and pulled the valve away from the body and let it drain, took a right angle pick and pulled the old ones out and installed the new ones. I couldn't even find the smaller one, unless it fell out in the oil. The large one was about half eaten away. So far there's no fluid leaking out of it now, but time will tell. It took about 2 hours to let the trans drain down, but I only got about 2 gallons out of it and that's what I had left from my old batch. I have 10 gallons of real 303 special purpose oil coming next week so I'll change it out. Looks like the oil pan is not leaking any more either. I hope all the other seals don't look like these old ones, but they may, the thing is 51 years old. I'll start another thread on the mid pto seal.
