2010 Backhoe
Hi everybody. This is my first thread i posted. I have been lurking while I buy a tractor but I probably should have gotten on here sooner...

So I pulled the trigger based on what I have learned and heard from trusted people. I bought this for $3000 which is what I was trying to spend on a decent project tractor with a loader and it was sort of a bonus that I got a backhoe.

I'm having trouble actually identifying my model, I don't think it has an original tag. I have a couple pics I snapped quickly, I'll add more later on.

The guy i got it from told me it was a 1962 2010 backhoe but I'm having trouble finding info on this industrial model. I know they were made thru 1965 but this has newer decals post 1968. I can see green paint on the motor so I know it has at least not stock. It runs good as I can see. Everything works ok. The buckets have seen better days but still ok... It leaks some hydraulic fluid from the front and coolant a little bit after I towed it home.

It could be a loader with a hoe and a cab but the cab goes over the hoe which i haven't seen on most. Maybe its patchwork of models and years? Maybe they repainted it with newer decals?

This is my first tractor I've ever bought in my whole life, never even had a lawn tractor. I bought it to be a project so I would like any pointers/criticism I can get.

I cant find a lot on these old 60's models other than they changed the logos in 1968 and the 2010 was made 61-65. I can only find stuff on the ag models. The oldest one i could find on tractordata was a 400 I think from '64 and it was like 125 hp. Then they all were from '71 and on I'm assuming they just didn't have a model of TLB before this maybe and it was more like an option? Again ANY input would help me to get my head around this

If industrial 2010 models are similar to ag models the sn plate on the engine will be the unit serial number. Is engine gasoline or diesel? Can you post some close-up photo's?

You got a good deal on it, even by having to put in new hydraulic seals, maybe a water pump for front coolant loss(might just be a leaking hose too), it looks like a pretty good tractor, good rubber too.

Jim - It's gasoline. I don't really know either way, but I have heard that although diesels are more rugged, that they are notoriously harder to start in the cold winter and are more expensive to maintain. I hope to get some insight on that as well. If the motor goes bad could I put a diesel in it? Where would the badge be located on the motor? I know on the tractor it should be above the left axle...

As I said before I can see green paint underneath the yellow on the motor implying that it is an ag motor in an industrial loader. But it may help to still find the make of the machine the motor came from? I'm new to this so bear with me if these questions are redundant.

thanks gary good to hear from somebody else in a different region...

The back tires are loaded and pretty dry rotted. They look like they'll hold up for a year or two more hopefully. The front tires are all but new. The rear rims have some rust around the valve stem on one and lots of rust around the valve stem on the other one. Like it's been repaired? or leaking calcium chloride maybe? Can I add air to them? how does that work?

He said it had a new starter, battery, and battery cables also.

The first time I went to look at it the hoe wouldn't work. It turned out to be a loose coupler on a big hose in the back. Seemed to be a simple fix and not cause for alarm.

The guy at my local used equipment center (where i rented this 12 ton trailer) told me if it runs and everything works I had to get it. He told me the first time when the hoe didn't work that I should have gotten it anyways that it was worth at least 3500 as parts, and if nothing else i should have used the loader to inch it up onto the trailer. The problem was the arms were down and went over the sides of the trailer.

I'll get some close ups today. The loader has been repaired (welded) more than once, and both buckets have decent wear and tear. And theres a chunk of wood stuck in where lever for the pto engages in the front "so it doesn't come out of gear"

Another thing is it's HEAVY. Definitely the heaviest thing I have ever towed. He told me it weighed over 13000 lbs which is like 3 times what a 2010 weighs...

It runs, it digs, it moves like I want it to. I just don't know where to start with something like this. I have heard a hydraulic leak is the worst thing to have because dirt will get into the system and foul everything up from where it leaks at.
