Maybe I asked in the wrong spot, so I'll try here, too.
I just "inherited" a JD 185 Hydro mower with the house I bought. It would start and run just fine, but not move either forward or reverse.
I found a broken spring laying on the mower deck, so I bought a new one. Found where the front of the spring hooks onto, but don't know where the back goes. The spring is about 15 inches long, with about half being "spring" and the other half being a straight piece. The JD place I bought the spring from could only tell me to "find where in the back it goes to." LOL
Looked up the parts catalog on JD.com, and found the spring on a diagram under "power train" then "clutch and bellcrank." The spring is part number 22, but the diagram doesn't show where the other end hooks to. I found an "ear" in the back that had a hole in it that I hooked it to first. Now the mower would move (I guess the front part of the spring is in the right place), but it makes an awful noise because the straight part of the spring is being rubbed by the pulley in the rear. Guess that's the wrong spot. LOL Didn't see any other places to hook this thing to. Any ideas? Any help is appreciated.
