If you still have the old shoe(s), cover the warn area of the skid with some rolled steel (as in cut from and old hot water tank, or soft plate beat into the curved section shape. Use a metal cutting wheel in a circular saw to get the shape you need. Plastic with carriage bolts works, too.

you can also try sickleservice.com i think they have most parts for haybines and sickle mowers.

Pieces of used leaf springs also make good wear surfaces for skid shoes. I have done this on my discbine on all the wear plates, and it holds up great!

Great Ideas guys! I have ! more question for now. My barn door is aprox 12ft wide and my haybine is aprox 11ft 7/8ins well you no what I mean.

Heres the question do you think if I buy a couple of those car dollies and put under each wheel I will be able to push the haybine around they will be rated at 1000lbs. each dolly?

After reading my question it doesnt make sense. let me re state the question because I have had the haybine thru this door before buy it was a PIA! Here goes again Will car dollies rated at 1000lbs ea. hold the haybine?

O by the way I found the shoe that was missing out in the hay field and the part that holds the shoe too the pivet pin was totally missing. Basically is a flat pieace of metal worn out. with no way too connect it two the pivet that it attaches too!

If I'm not mistaken, the 1209 was an earlier version of the 1219, which is what we have. If this is the case, two 1000lb dollies would not hold the weight. I don't know the exact weight, but ours is pretty heavy. It pushes around our 10,000lb 2550 JD on the steeper hills. I would guess it weighs over 4000lbs.

Just an update- those 1000 lb skates worked but only had too use them too get in the door. I am haveing a buddy build a set of guage feet.

I have been doing some up keep on this 1209 and have a manual but dont quite understand How you adjust the plate form float? It says adjust the or tighten the float springs for ground pressure of 50 too 100lbs. And measure this by lifting at knockdown bar. Do you do this when the cutter is at cutting level? And if I do this the springs will not be even because one side is much heavier than the other side? How do you guys do your adjustements?

You do this with the mower down and yes you are correct they are not set the same due to one side will be heavier. I just adjust each side a little at a time till each side feels about even. I pick on the outside corner of the bar, then go to the other corner and pick again. Use the lowest weight possible to get the cut you want. Heavier equals more wear and a little harder to pull.

My model must be an older model, The roll pressure looks like it is also set with these springs. their is not a adjustable bolt/braket for roll pressure like it says in the manual. (I think its the wrong manual) Anyway do you still set the float adjustment the same way?
