Well, we took the plunge and bought a new JD 110 TLB which was just delivered this past Wed afternoon, and all I can say is, Wow!!
We started using it to clear and clean up an 8-acre wooded flag lot over the Holiday and it has performed better than I had expected for this size tractor. Deere did their homework and has really created a great product.
We got the 4-in-1 Loader Bucket w/ Tooth Bar, a 72" Tined Grapple, and a 6' LandPride Brush Hog so we could start the clearing process. We will be adding more attachments as the project moves on.
The Tined Grapple is one of Deere's heavy duty Skid Steer attachments and has performed great. I can knock trees down, ripe them from the roots, and carry them off with its clamps. I have taken out trees up to 6-inches across and 50' tall with no problem, and then I'd pick up the whole tree and drag it to the brush pile to cut up with the chain saw. Then go back and pick up any loose brush and limbs.
Even the backhoe works great. It just rips through the roots and pulls out the stumps in no time. When I finish with one, I use the creeper to reposition, and out comes the next one. After one stump there was a 4-inch tree within striking distance, so I pushed it over, ripped through the trunk and dug out the stump. It was like taking candy from a baby.
We also added the rear work lights and it almost seems like day-time around the tractor. I kept right on working when it got dark because I didn't really notice. Had to stop when the wife came looking for me to come home since she expected me at dark.
Then we try the Brush Hog. The Hoe comes off real easy once you find that sweet spot where it takes the weight off the pins, goes on quick too. The 3-point Top-In-Tilt took a little time on the first go around and the draft bars weigh a ton with those cylinders. The only problem I had was getting the draft bars to move over the pins. I had to keep repositioning the tractor to take the weight off them. I wonder it they make the adjustable links for the 110? Anyway, the Brush Hog cut right through the weeds, brush, pricker bushes, and fallen branches without a problem. It got a little loud on the big branches, but that is to be expected. I decided it was still too wet and was leaving ruts so went back to hoe work.
By the by, I hit some really soft spots with the thaw we had after the last snow. I left ruts almost 18-inches deep in one area, but the tractor didn't care or even hint at getting stuck. I didn't even engage the differential, just had it in 4wd with Industrial tires.
So far, using the tractor has seemed more like play than work. Well that's enough for now; I will try to have the wife come along next time I’m out to take some pictures.

PS: If anyone in and around NJ is in the market for a new tractor and wants to deal with a great dealer, I would not hesitate to recommend talking to Marvin at Wainwright's in Bordentown, NJ (609) 499-2711. He went out of his way to take care of me and if he didn't know the answer to a question, he would find out and call me right back. Thanks, Marvin for the help and great service.
