Hello gentlemen and women -

Two questions for a new owner of a used 110 TLB :

Is there a standard paint color for this "construction yellow" on my TLB? I am doing some repairs, even welding, and want to touch up where I have been working on it. Does the Caterpillar yellow match? Do I have to go through JD to get a match?

I have removed the backhoe to check on the 3 point hitch. The rockshaft does not do anything. No lift, no wiggle, no pressure, nothing. It feels like there isn't any oil in the lift cylinder. I can lift it by hand and it simply drops with no resistance at all.

Is there a sequence of checks I can do to eliminate potential issues as to why this is the case?

I have followed the factory manual as far as checking oil, on level ground, in neutral, high idle. Maybe I could check an electrical connection/switch, etc?

Thanks -

looking forward to the machine and some serious time here getting educated -

Chris

Deere has a different color from Cat first of all, usually available in rattle cans and pails at the dealer. Make sure the power beyond hydraulic hoses is coupled properly and check to see if the rockshaft linkage is connected to the valve.

Thanks Jenkins - The hose from the backhoe gets plugged into itself, on the backhoe to prevent leaking and on the tractor as the circuit seems to be an open center - fluid flowing all the time back to tank if it isn't being used. If the tractor hoses aren't plugged in the tractor hydraulics are dead ended and will (I think) stall the tractor. Lever does seem to be connected tot he valve.

Other ideas?

I had the rockshaft on my 4520 do this early in the year and had to pull the housing off to reconnect the valve linkage. Took a couple of hours to do but no parts expense. Has worked fine all year with no further issues. Felt that was a little odd, just wasn't put together right at the factory.

I haven't seen this on the 110 but have heard there might be a switch that the backhoe frame contacts when it is installed. You might want to look around the lower hitch points to see if one is there and see if it is stuck. I don't see the need for a switch since the 3ph is disconnected when the backhoe is hooked up but it is worth a look.

I would have someone operate the rockshaft lever and make sure it is turning the shaft feeding into the rockshaft housing first. This can be done with the engine off. My backhoe and cab are mounted right now so I can't see much to offer additional help.

There are two Deere construction yellow paint colors. An old and new yellow. Likely your machine is the new yellow.

Thanks guys -

Jenkins, you have given me more to think about and check - will do.

As for the paint - appreciate that input as well. Any idea if anyone makes an after market that matches? IE cheaper than through the dealer?

There is a backhoe presence switch that I believe will prevent the hitch arms from raising. If I recall it is on the right hand side, but I will have to check on that. If the backhoe has not been off for a while, the switch could be stuck in the 'backhoe installed' position. Let me know if you need more info. good luck.

Disney - a few more specifics on where this switch might be located? As far as I know the machine had NEVER had the backhoe off of it. That would be a great thing to check -

Thanks,

Chris

Sorry the scan is not the best, but here is a page from the parts book. If you can not see it on your machine, let me know and I will try to get an actual picture, but I believe it is not a large switch, and therefore could be easy to 'miss'. good luck !

The scan is fine - now I know what I am looking for. I'll check on it first thing in the morning. Thanks - Chris
