JD 110 TLB
I have a 2008 JD 110 TLB with 2000+ Hrs and it seems to have developed a noise in the driveline. This occurs mainly at road speeds and sounds like gears grinding or a steel chain drive loose and rattling. When I slow the speed the noise stops. I have never heard the noise when working with the tractor at any load or speed. Only running on the road. This past weekend I was on a long straight paved grade where I decided to put it in nuetral and coast and the noise still occured. I believe that this narrows it down to the final drive, either front or rear. I just changed the Hyro Oil and Filters and found no signs of accessive wear or broken pieces. Sound familiar? Any thoughts?????????

The final drives on my 4120 have always been noisy traveling in high on the road. I've always attributed it to having straight cut rather than helical cut gears in the final drives (if that is true). The old 2 cylinders had all straight cut gears and the are very noisy in the drivetrain. There's a story in one of my books how the CEO at the time the new generation was being tested had a chance to drive a test unit and complained about the gear noise and made the engineers redesign the transmission with helical gears. The story went on to say that Deere was the first company to use computers to design gear geometry. I assume the 110 has planetary final drives like the 4x20 tractors.

Of course running in the fairly light weight hytran oil doesn't help any.

Judging by the parts diagram not only are the gears straight cut but the 4x20 and 110 share common parts in the final drive.

Thanks for the reply. The noise I am experiencing is not constant. It comes and goes. When it comes it is very obvious and I am forced to slow down sometimes almost to a stop. I fear that if i continue to let it Grind it will self destruct. After the noise stops I continue. I have been keeping my speed down when traveling and again I have not yet heard it while working with impliments or the loader.

It's hard to say without hearing first hand but what you describe is similar to what I have experienced. It does come and go at road speed and does not ever make any noise under load. Mine is more of a clatter then a grinding noise. It tends to do it when there is no load because that's when the gears can shuck back and forth. I have had my tractor since it was new and it now has 1500 hours and it has always made the noise. It is loud enough when it does it to make me wonder but again I have had the tractor since it was new. Also when you drive on pavement you get a new perspective on noises because they reflect of the pavement differently than dirt.

I believe we are on the same page. It is sometimes hard to describe a noise but maybe clatter is a better description. Sounds like this is the nature of the beast and I just need to keep my road speeds down. This is a great tractor and I have no other complaints. I did alot of research before purchasing it and it seems to meet or exceeds all of my needs. Thanks for your help. DBL

I used my tractor to haul firewood in wire baskets two face cord at a time. One on the FEL and one on the 3 point. It was 10 miles round trip but faster than loading the pickup and having to handle it all one or two more times and stack it. I'm trying to remember but I'm sure I hauled at least 20 face cord this way, probably a little more. I always went as fast as the tractor would go, which meant only slowing down for the hills on the road. I may have slowed down a couple times when it was in the 20's. A 15 mph wind at that temp is alfully chilling!
