I have a 72 JD 110 with kohler 10hp motor.. It runs fine for about 30 min and then it dies and you cannot keep it running after that... You have to let it sit for a couple hours before it will run again... Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be.. Thanks..

Fule filter, or thin oil, if it has a oil shut down sencer it will see old oil as not being there an shut down. Just a place to start.

What did you do to it last? I thinking vapor lock?

Have you done any ignition work to it? Points, or condensor? The reason I say this is because it sounds like it could be the condensor/resistor. They will run until good and hot then swell a bit which causes an opening in the circuit. Just a thought. Usually a cheap guess

It's kind of difficult to diagnosis without knowing how it dies

Does just just die all of a sudden.
Gradually lose power, slow down and then quit.

It seems to me 30 minutes is a long time to run at power, then die due to fuel starvation. That being said, I did have a car once that would run fine for a while then just die. It had to set for a while and it was alright. It turn out to be a combination of a dirty fuel filter AND the gas cap wasn't letting air into the tank.

Try checking the inner seal on the gas cap.

When coils start to go, they will stop working when they heat up. When they completely cool off, they start working again. Just a thought.

30 minutes IS a long time to run before dying. Vapor lock would happen way before that. That model tractor has several things that go wrong over time:
1. ignition switch
2. small fuel shutoff under tank
3. coil, points, condenser

My 212 was doing the exact same thing. I put a brand new set of points in and it ran good as new. Changing points are easy, just follow the procedure in the OM. If you change the points, change the condenser at the same time. Its cheap money.
