Borrowed the neighbors and noticed the Temperature guage is pegged to the right. Is that controlled by a relay as I see some under the part where it is located??
Thought I would try and fix seeing he was nice enough to let me use.
Thanks

Don't know the fix, but if it were mine then I would want the neighbor to work WITH me on any fix.. I would not want that neighbor to do anything without me being involved. Just sayin....

Sorry.....If you were my neighbor, I would not have loaned you my backhoe, under any circumstances.
I might have offered to come do the work for you though.

Could be the sending unit on the engine or the temp gauge ...

Good point....."wherever you are"..... and you are where?
You have not entered a location in your profile.

Depending on the year, it may not be temperature related at all. Some later John Deeres from maybe mid-2000s on up had a crude black box precursor to today's engine computer which controlled fuel delivery to the independent injectors. Sort of a hybrid injection system... Anyway, if that black box was not receiving sufficient voltage from the temperature sender, the computer would default to a low voltage sender reading which would show up on the temperature gauge as being pegged to the right.... i.e. as extreme overheating.

To crudely diagnose, you can let it cool overnight and then see if the dash gauge shows being pegged after being run for a few minutes. You know it cannot really get overheated that fast, but feel the hoses to be sure. If it is running good and a heat gun or hand has you feeling normal temperature but still the gauge is showing pegged it could be that black box computer.

You can back track wiring to find the engine computer - it's literally a flat black box about an inch thick and 4"x6" rectangle mounted to the side of the engine or to the forward frame n the engine compartment. They were & are a known problem. See if it's case is bulged, wires frayed, or the plug loose.

We had a similar problem on our JD 310SG a few years back.

Would you please loan me your chainsaw?

My guess is the temp sensor, or a short in the wire from it to ground.
