I have a JD 1070 tractor with a non-functional tachometer. There is no needle present in the instrument cluster for the tachometer gauge. Both fuel gauge and temperature gauge work fine, as does the hour meter. The backlights in the instrument cluster also do not work.
On occasion when running the tractor (usually at higher RPM) I can hear a noise I can best describe as a loud humming. It is intermittent and will go away after a few seconds. The previous owner told me that this was related to the tachometer not working, and that the noise was coming from the tachometer cable?
I am unfamiliar with how tachometers on these tractors work. My question is two fold- would I have to buy an entirely new instrument cluster ($$$) to get a functioning tachometer gauge and replace the back lights? Second question would be how to fix the tachometer cable to take care of the noise.
Thanks in advance,
Nick
