I have been looking at tractors, of course this is why I am posting here.
Looked at many brands on Craigslist. Small amount of land, horses, mowing a few acers, moving hay ,box blade work, and manuer removal. General dont want to break my back need for a tractor. Nothing big, something in the 25-35hp range.
I have posted here about a couple of Kubotas I am looking at. I came across a JD 1050 the other day and I am going to go look at it this weekend. Its a 4X4 tractor but the sellers says the previous owner removed the front drive shaft and does not know why. He says he has had the front end check and its ok. Not sure what would entail getting another drive shaft. I would think after looking at JD parts site, that the shaft housing would be there, but not internal shaft or part. I would not think you could operate the tractor without the housing in place. Can't tell till I go look at it.
Not sure of the hours, will see once I get to see it. The guy is asking $4,000.00 for the tractor.
My question I guess is why would you remove the front drive shaft, and could you operate it without the shaft? Not knowing what is there, I have no idea what it would cost to replace the shaft. Any thoughts?
Here is the pic.
