JD 1020
I have what is, I believe a 1969 JD 1020 with a later model loader on it and I was using it yesterday and all of the sudden I lost control of the loader. I can't raise or lower the bucket nor tilt. Both controls are not working and seem stiff. I can't find any broken hoses or leaks. The 3 point still works fine in the rear, so I'm guessing it it something with the front end itself. Any suggestions on what it could be? I'm not sure if it is a pump or seal or something in the control mechanism itself. HELP!

If your 3pt is working, then the implement pump is working.

Tractor data says you have a closed center hyd system, so any other valve could work, and your loader valve is not supplying fluid to the loader.

Try removing the hoses to the cyl and see if the loader valve is supplying fluid into the hoses, and if not, then the valve is not working.

Do you have a lever or switch that you can shut off the flow to the loader?

I don't have a switch to shut it off but I will try your recommendations and see what happens, thanks. I will let you know. It may be a few days till I can get to it though.

Does loader have an ind control valve or is it controlled by tractor remotes(SCV's)? If by ind hyd valve how is this valve plumbed to tractor hyd's? I've seen loader ind hyd valve attached to the rear remotes which would require the rear remote(SCV) lever to be moved one way or the other to allow flow to the loader valve.

Ah, a JD loader/tractor issue....

As stated.....

Okay, first question, how is he loader valve getting it's hydraulic fluid? Is it plumed directly to the supply UNDER the tractor? Is the return going to the filter housing UNDER the tractor or to the pipe plug behind the operator seat? Being a loader, it probably has quick connect couplers. Possible one or the other came loose/off, so it would lockup your loader (ie if return came loose, no where for fluid to go).

Or is the supply plugged into the SVC quick hook up on the back? If the supply lines are hooked to the SVC, that would mean the tractor's OEM hydraulic control was "locked" open to supply the axu/loader valve. We do this when using a post pownder on the 3pt- I tie the lever to is is "on" supplying the post driver control lever. When done, I loosen the rope and the SVC returns back to normal and then unhook. Hold the lever one direction and try the loader...if loader moves...

All fixed. It was easy and you were correct. All it was, was the quick connect valve underneath the tractor. Thanks!

Check the "male" plug/connector to make sure the edges where the "female" coupler's detents engage. Over time, that spot gets worn (been there, done that), just like on an air chuck. Sometimes a pressure spike can unhook the hose....seen it happen too. Usually it is more prone when using the old style JD coupler style; not so much w/ the new universal standard (old Deere couplers are more cone shaped while the new, universal style has a cylindrical look).

If it was the return line (which I'm guessing), you could have ran over something like a stick that hit the locking collar on the female coupler. Seen that happen too. If you are going into the brush, ya might want to be mindful of that- sticks hitting under the tractor. (Also, your left side brake line goes near the filter housing....over time, brush can bend it out of place...happens all the time on my Deere's....bent it once that it was under the filter housing). Also, if it is returning to the filter housing under the tractor, that housing can be rotated to point other directions- just loosen the center bolt (oil will leak a bit) and turn....just a FYI

At least it was a simple thing....
