JCB Backhoe

Hey guys & gals:

I've recently acquired a 1984 JCB backhoe. It says "3C" on the fender, but I believe it to be a 1400b model. It has the 4236T Perkins turbocharged engine in it and runs like a top.

Unfortunately it's missing a front corner. Everything from the axle to the final drive to the housing... the last owner took it apart and "lost" all of the pieces. I've got a suspicion they were mistaken for scrap. Anyhow, I've been having one heck of a time finding a source for used parts online. I know there are probably hundreds of compatible machines sitting in the weeds all throughout the country just waiting for someone like me to come along and buy the parts.

Can anyone supply me with leads? The axle appears to be a Dana (it looks similar to our Ford) but I haven't been able to figure out exactly what it is. On the build plate there is a number "01601" (or 0169 - can't read my own writing) that I think has something to do with the axle.

Here is what I THINK are your parts diagrams, I'd go to a dealer and make sure I looked up the right parts. For newer machines the program allows me to type in the serial number and it gives me the list of parts. For yours I had to manually look up which parts list to use based on serial number.

If you are in Ontario try Home they may be able to tell you where to look for used parts.

Oh and I believe the 1400B is the same as the 3CX, it was called the 1400B in North America, 3CX everywhere else. I think...

Also if it comes to it, try Digger Doctor| JCB Spares| JCB Parts| Used JCB Parts| Leicestershire they are in UK and have lots of used parts. It may end up being quicker than looking for the parts here.

I know this thread is a year old... just wanted to say that I found all of the pieces that I needed on ebay. Interestingly, I bought a hub assembly that was supposed to fit from a business that found my post here - it was the correct part minus the fact that there wasn't a place to hook up my power steering arm. Either some 1550bs had a different steering system or else I was sent the incorrect part. Since it was the same in every other way I kept it for the final drive and lug nuts (which my ebay find didn't include).

All in all I have an excellent 1984 4x4 turbocharged backhoe with low hours (new tires, good glass, etc) - even with the extra pieces that I purchased I'm in for under $7000. Can't beat that! Thanks to everyone who either replied or sent me a message!
