I purchased a new battery for my 212 yesterday because it wouldn't start. Put the new battery in and it would barel turn over. Took it back to NAPA for a load test and they say its good. So should I take the stater off and have it load tested? I know its a Perkins 1000 engine. Are the starters all the same for those so I don't have to go through JCB? Any suggestions?

I'd check all the connections first and make sure they were all clean. Good luck and Happy New Year!

I have a JCB 212 also. It requires alot of cranking amps for some reason. I just got a new battery too and you are wasteing you money if you dont buy a comercial battery. Needs to be at least 1000 cranking amps. I might have to get two smaller 12 volts and hook them in parllel. The battery sits on one side with a long run of the battery cable to the otherside where the starter is . Mine is still slow to crank when cold. I think my block heater is bad which contributes to the problem also.

I'm with Slate Mike on this one, check all connections and wires.

What craniking amps is your new battery?

Its a 655cca which is what JCB specs. Its the same size as the JCB battery also. Checked all the connections and they are good. I tried to get the starter off and gave up. Can't get a socket or boxend wrench on the nuts.

I did borrow a large battery charger and charge it. Then put the charger on 225a start and got it started. Tried it the next day and wouldn't start. Haven't had time to mess with it. I don't know whether to take the battery back to NAPA for another one or try to get the starter off and have it load tested. I know one thing I can't afford to pay a JCB field mechanic to come fix it. I figured it would be about $500 in travel time.

Guess I shouldn't have thought about selling the thing or it would still be running!

Old thread. I purchased a new Odyssey battery for this thing last year because the previous battery died. JCB wanted $600 plus shipping and still had to purchase the acid. That was a no go. NAPA didn't carry the same style battery anymore. Somebody gave me the name of a battery place a couple miles away. The battery they had was about 30% smaller which I was a little hesitant about purchasing. But took the chance. That battery turns the engine over like nothing before. Even last winter it would fire right up after not being started for several months. I know I've read of other people having similar issues so thought I would give a heads up.
