J.D. paint colors

Restoring a J.D. tractor and have been told and from pictures the green looks darker from the new tractors. Anyone know if there was a color change and if so what the original was?

This site has links that will keep you reading for a while!! And, yes they did change greens from time to time. the newer paint has a more yellow 'hue' in the color.

Up here in Canada, John Deere sells an "Antique"or it might be called "Vintage" I forget green(darker) and the newer brighter green. The yellow is the same for both. Apparently the older green is being phased out and won't be sold by John Deere and our local dealership only has quart cans. The newer green can be bought in quart, gallon, and 5 gal pail. I painted up a seized 1937 "D" for the end of the driveway with the new paint and I think it actually looks better because it is brighter. Maybe not truly correct, but the neighbors don't know any better and it is still bright and shiny 2 years later!

I couldn't help, but attached my long term project I picked up this summer, a 1929 "D", running (barely but drove it on the trailer to bring it home). It will be brought to functionally sound and then it too will get the bright green until I get around to doing the tin on it properly. At least it will be shiny for hay rides.

Thanks for the replys. Tul01,that's a honey, and like you, my paint is in the future after further restoration. One learns alot of history when working on one of these and why things were made that way. Just takes time to find the correct parts, paint and knowledge.

I don't think the stuck one is beyond help, but it is on the back burner. I sealed the block up from water and have sealed some diesel in the cylinders, maybe in a couple years I may get to opening her up and fixing that cracked block/head.
