If you buy a tractor make sure you don't buy the limited warranty. I bought a 4120 with 88 hours on it, and it now has 102 and the PTO quit working on it. I carried it to the J D dealership with my warranty card that transfered to me when I purchased the tractor and told them that the pto would not work and left it for them to see what was wrong and to let me know. About two weeks later I get a call that the tractor is ready and warranty did not cover it and it was over 2400.00. (left on answering machine). I would have appreciated an estimate before they fixed it, especially if the warranty was not going to have covered it. They said the PTO valve was bad. I had no choice in the warranty when the tractor was bought, but if you buy one get the full warranty or it seems the limited one really doesn't cover much at all. Yes the tractor 's regular warranty had expired and it just had 88 hours on it when I bought it but it had the extended until May 2010 but when I bought it I was just told it came with an extended warranty, they just didn't tell me which one.

I'm confused. Is this the standard 2 year 2000 hour JD warranty, or an extended warranty from someone else?

I ask because the tractor I bought last week came with the 2 year 2000 hour from JD and it was described to me as a "bumper to bumper" just like a new car's warranty. I was told it covered it all.

You should contact Deere about this repair, even though the warranty has expired the hours are very low. I had a similar experience a couple of years ago with my 110tlb which was out of warranty by over a year but with 245 hours on the machine the Deere rep paid for half of the costs. In your case where an internal hydraulic valve was the cause of failure I think there is a good chance they will help you out.

I couldn't have said it better. Based on my experience, I think there is an excellent chance Deere will help you out on this.

I'd withold paying. You need to pursue this with someone in that dealership with authority to make it right. If that person does not help, I'd call JD HQ and take it up with them. Like others said...a bad PTO valve at 102 hrs is not right. JD ought to cover it completely.

I get the question all of the time when selling a used tractor. "what is the warranty? if it fails will you pay for it?" My answer is always the same, "New tractors come with warranty" Deere however is usually pretty good about stepping up to the plate on low hour but aged pieces failing but don't necc expect they will foot the whole bill a lot of times it is split up. The dealer however should have most definatelly called before the work was completed and told you that the warranty was expired and it would cost x amount, shame on them for either not being up front or lazy.
