Guys I've officially joined the club. I went up there with my name on one but and thought I'd buy one but was not 100% sure - I was impressed with Fredericks work - Basically everything that was rubber (or things that would dry rot/deterioate were new) - New AG tires, seat, hood holders, belt, every hose - Even the little rubber gasket on the dip stick was new - and of course all the fluids/filters etc. I was also impressed that it came with an overrun clutch - I thought I'd have to buy one separately. The paint job was not quite as good as the rest of the things - There's a couple nice runs (but I realize it's not a car). One thing I thought that might be included in the UTDA standards was a slow moving vehicle sign, but I'm going to have to go and get one - I don't know everything there is about UTDA, but I do know it is SAFETY and that's what the SMV sign does is helps to make us safer.

All of the staff and mechanics were very friendly and professional.

The tractor is a little louder than I'd like it - I think I'll invest in ear protection - I did listen to a 3 Cyl and it seemed almost as loud.

The tractor is easy to get on, but getting off is a lil more difficult.

I haven't done any work with it yet - But hope to tomorrow.

It rode in the horse trailer just great and I felt that it was plenty secure with the D rings, chains, binders, and blocks.

Thanks for all of your help. See the attached picture!

nice ! I didn't think you would be back home soo soon. I see it has yanmar decals on the tractor. When I bought mine , they said they had to take anything that said yanmar off the tractor. Mine says zen-noh,but is yanmar. So, the're putting new rubber on the tractors now ? My tires weren't new ,but have good tread.my 3 cyl isn't loud at all. INfact, it's very smooth running

I've heard of the Yanmar motors, and also the tractors. but what exactly is a Yanmar, now I know it's japanese, but is it a japanese model for some american branded tractor? The tire treads seem rather agressive compared to an R4 or even an american ag tire. I now Kubota was fighting the gray market tractors that were in essence Japanese model Kubotas, and all the writing on the tractors was in japanese, and some of the american features were not present. I also read somewhere that Yanmars could be used with certain John Deere manuals, which makes me believe the yanmars are the japanese model of the (also japanese made) american John Deere.

Long story. Here's a little bit of it:

You can see Yanmar-Japan's history on their website.

Relevant here, they set up their own Yanmar Tractor dealerships here in the 70s then closed them in the late 80's after they contracted to build tractors for Deere. My green YM240 (see my sig pictures) is one of these old American Yanmars, nearly identical to the red YM2000 they sold in Japan at the time but with a few minor things adapted to make it an American tractor such as the throttle is push to accelerate per the American standard.

Japanese tax law and farm subsidies cause tractors to be traded in long before they are worn out. Individuals and then larger merchants started importing these used Japanese home-market Yanmars to the US. I think these unofficial imports ('gray market') now outnumber the US Yanmars by some large multiple, maybe 50:1??.

The things are bulletproof so with appearance reconditioning, expected maintenance, and a few fresh soft parts like a seat even the 30 year old models are a strong competitor to a new tractor in reliability.

There's a dark side to this market. There are some shady importers who are simply merchants selling repainted junkers who don't know, or care, if the one they are selling you is the only one of its kind ever imported to the US. The way to distinguish them is to ask about manuals and parts support - the shady merchant will tell you that's not his problem while the quality dealer will proudly show you his shop and stock of parts.

Those aggressive tires you see on gray-market Japanese tractors are for running in deep muck in the rice paddies - these tractors' original use.

Rgood went with the quality importer. I would love to have a tractor as nice as that!

Nice looking tractor. Where are you from, nothing in your profile? Seems like I remember reading where your were going to pick up a tractor using a horse trailer. Nice looking rig, I'm sure you didn't have any problems hauling with that. I've seen much worse on the roads near me. Welcome to TBN.
