But, I'm glad I do! :thumbsup: First time I really get to use the backhoe and what a life saver. The kitchen sink stopped draining and the investigation started. Bought a foreclosed home a year ago and had no history on the house. The kitchen sink does not drain into the septic system and is stopped working. Insert Kubota backhoe to find out why! I quickly learned how to use it and it was great! Found the pipe drained into a barrel acting as a holding tank and then into a leachfield. Well, the barrel had 23 years of food chunks, grease and whatever else goes down the kitchen sink in it. It was full and backing up. Put a new barrel in, this time with a clean out, and we are up and running again. The Kubota performed flawlessly and even the Boss (wife) said she is glad we bought it!!!;

Besides, I find there is a satisfaction that comes from being able to "do for yourself" that goes beyond money.

Don't let the health dept police know about that. Up here they will condemn your place. You might want to consider figuring out how to hook up to your septic tank. Here we have to pump septic tanks every three years whether they need it or not. Compliance is poor though. They get you when you sell, it is required to have a pump-out and inspection by a county certified company prior to closing. OH!!, for the good ole days when you really owned your property.

Looks to me like he has a holding (septic) tank and leachfield. There may be some minimum size of 500 gallons for a septic tank though. What is there that is not compliant assuming that his leachfield if sufficient and tank size is sufficient. In my county, you have to have minimum of 5 acres in order to install a septic system and county inspects the perk test to tell you how many feet of leachfield line that you need if it passes the minimum adsorption rate in the perk test that is.

Original mobile home that was on property when we purchased back in the '80's had a similar set-up , although it was for laundry purposes only and that the barrel / drum was under the house ??? How they got it under there was beyond me as I would of had to raise the house by at least 8" in any direction i went to clear the rails .
Even when we put axles on the old house , it still was going to hang up , so ended up using a reciprocating saw and something like 6 blades to whack in pieces .

After we first purchased place we notice that one area in front of house was always green and moist , so I investigated , as with yours , barrel was plug , but drain line had broke before barrel thus allowing it to drain into flower bed / lawn area . ( I don't think it had been used much for at least a couple of years , at least based upon previous owners clothing every time we talked :confused2: ) .

When we pulled that old home out , all the excavating around that home to be able to move it and install axles , exposing septic and drain field , taking out old cement runners after it was moved , back filling , grading , landscaping , trenching for new power to shop was accomplished with our little TC30 and 757 backhoe .

At the time we purchased tractor , my better half / Accountant questioned the purchase of the backhoe attachment . After the money we saved by being able to do all the above , she has never questioned that back hoe or for that matter , any other attachment for the tractor .
