Bought a 318 today with 1400 hours body in real nice shape, best I have ever seen original paint on deck, clean hydro fluid all for $1,850! Got them down in price form 2500. Blows some smoke and I will rebuild the motor in the winter time. Pick it up tomorrow. I can't sleep!
The JD 318's have a great Onan twin cylinder that produces 18 horse. The late model 316s have a twin 16 horse Onan. 322s have a Yanmar gas, 330 and 332s have Yanmar diesels. After I mowed with a few 300s 2 years ago I fell in love with them at the JD store I work for so I had to buy one. Even went over to the neighboring state of Wisconsin to look at a 316 on Saturday but decided the 318 was better.
Congrats Nick! When I can get a breather from other more critical 'honey-do's' I've got to dig into my 318's Onan myself but I'll never sell it, it's too neat of a little bulldog. Just stay off eBay - there's too much out there in the way of accessories and restoration parts - it's too tempting!
Nick,
Glad that you found a 318 that you are happy with, price looks good too. I am sure you will have it looking and running better than new in short order. Don't forget to post some pictures when you get it home.

Now that you are a 318 owner, you might want to check out www.weekendfreedommachines.org. It is a dedicated Deere web-site for pre 1992 Garden tractors. LOTS and LOTS of info on attachments, repair, restoration, model changes, etc. It is the BEST resource of info I know of for your (and my two 316s) tractor.
Thanks guys. Hopefully winter I can pull the motor and get it fixed up good so she don't smoke so bad but it runs great and cuts good. I'll try and take some pics but I'll have to get them developed first as I have no digi camera. I'm just stuck in the 80's!
