that can stop you in your tracks. The sister of my next door neighbor has a driveway that's like riding a roller coaster. I told her I'd smooth it out sometime for very cheap (like gas money, 'cause I like doing favors).
Anyway, hunting season came along, so things dragged out (pun
). When I finally got to it the top had frozen down about two and a half inches and I found it too difficult to drag the scarifiers through it. If the ground hadn't frozen, it would have been a half hour job.
My solution - use just the center scarifier and raise the box while coming into the frozen dirt. By the time it was all ripped up, it looked like a brown ice jam. Too late to stop now - the damage was already done. Thankfully it was warming up by then and several trips over it had it mixed with the puddles and thawed into a firm soupy mix. About three hours total time had it much more level and looking good. Because of the procrastination I'll have to go back in the spring to get the spots that were just too frozen to do anything with, but she won't be getting seasick pulling into her driveway for the next several months.
It feels good to make someone happy, and it gets me some seat time.
