Now that I have calmed down, figured I would post and see if someone can point me towards a solution before another weekend goes by without the FEL working.:muttering:
I have been trying to get the MF 250 with a 232 FEL fully operational again after the transmission housing was busted, and the FEL belly mount plate and arms twisted. It's been going on for years, and got within spitting distance yet again tonight, and something else broke. After all new hoses, I had a bucket cylinder pouring. One $130 seal kit(w/$30 shipping charge) and some careful cleaning, I was reassembled the cylinder tonight, and pinned it on the tractor. The final step before hooking up the shiny new hoses was turning in the wire lock for the gland, and since I had carefully pre-oiled everything with a tiny brush and hydraulic fluid, I could turn the gland with just an adjustable wrench instead of the 36" steel pipe wrench it took to break the gland loose to disassemble.
So I inserted the wire lock in the gland cap, made sure it grabbed the indention for the hook, had my son hold it steady, and started turning it in. To me, it felt like the right amount resistance as the wire turned in, bending along the groove......and then a faint "snap"...
. Reversed the gland...and the wire did not move. :fiery: :banghead:. Got a pair of pliers and had my son pull while I reversed the "almost a 1/2 turn" we made before the snap...and the wire came free, with the hook end broken off.
ullinghair: :hissyfit:
Now that my extensive vocabulary of expletives is fully exhausted, I have to find a replacement lock wire. The nearest Massey dealer is over an hour away, and he had to order the seal kit (this 232 has German cylinders). An on-line search for the part number was zero results. Do I have other options? Would a local hydraulic cylinder repair shop stock something like this, maybe? Or are they only going to have construction equipment stuff?
Thanks in advance.
