I have been using the 54" mower deck on my 445 since 1994 as a semi-Brush Hog. I can now count the times I have stalled the engine hitting an old stump or other crap as I slowley cleared my old cow pastures. In all that time I have replaced the spindle pullies once and two spindles. I will replace the last original spindle this spring. I have replaced the belt twice and several blaqde sets. I don't think you have anything to worry about. My philosiphy is if it goes under the mower deck, tractor it gets mower. That is why I bought a Deere and not a Craftsman or other Big Box lawn mower.

Now that brought back last Summer's memory and made me laugh. I accidentally ran over a length of chain. After the mower chewed it up a bit and wrapping the rest around the center spindle, which all seen to happen instantaneous, stopped my 318 cold and stalling it out.
I could not restart it. Wouldn't even turn over.:shocked: In the excitement of the moment, I had forgotten to turn the PTO switch to the off position before trying to restart the engine to raise the deck and check the damage. What a relief once I realized the problem. The only damage turned out to be was deep gouges in the mower blades. And a little to my nerves when at first the tractor wouldn't restart.
There are some things that will go under but the mower cannot digest it.
