Isuzu Pickup Truck

Does anyone know anything about the new Isuzu pickup trucks coming out?

They talk about great mileage and employee discount pricing.

Is this a good thing?

I don't know anything about the new ones, but the last generation of Isuzu trucks were rebadged Chevy S-10's.

Last time I heard, Isuzu has pulled 100% of its true Isuzu products. All of their current line is rebadged Chevy products. It is a darn shame, I think Isuzu has had some great value in their products in the past. I had an Isuzu pup (small pick up) that lasted well over 300K. And it only died because I loaned it to my absent minded father who drove it out of antifreze and overheated the motor so much that the plastic van cut into the radiator. The radiator was shot, and it was going to be to expensive to fix, so we loaded it up and DROVE it to the scrap metal place. I still regret not keeping it, and seeing what that engine could have done (400k or more I bet).

Looks like the same as the chevy Colorado. I looked at the Isuzu Ascender last summer. It was the same vehicle as the chevy trailblazer.
The Isuzu did come with a longer warranty and seemed to have a few more standard items than the chevy for a slightly lower price.

I think GM has a financial interest in Isuzu..

Wasn't the Duramax Engine developed by Isuzu for GM.

It's a Chevy Colorado built in Shreveport, LA. Same truck built with the same pieces on the same assembly line.
GM needed another brand in order to utilize more capacity at that assembly plant. Sales of the underpowered (with cheap interior) Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon are below projections because of better quality (and better powered) Japanese compact pickups. There is going to be a supercharged I-5 available in the Colorado/Canyon but only in a "sport" version and probably not in the Isuzu version at all.

Is the Canyon a good truck worth looking at?

I thought Isuzu still had diesel pickups and I was getting my hopes up.

I currently have a 2001 F150 4x4 off road. It works well, but gets lousy mileage.

Everyone will have a different opinion. My father-in-law has a 4x4 crew cab Canyon and likes it. Of course he also works for GM and didn't test or consider anything else. In my opinion it's underpowered, has a cheap interior, ahd the crew cab has a miniscule cargo box. It also doesn't have much payload; isn't that why you buy a truck?
Wheather or not a Canyon will work for you depends on what you need a truck for. If it's fuel economy, my F-I-L's Canyon gets high teens; the motor's too small (he's got the I-5) for the truck.

I'd buy a V-6 1/2 ton before I would buy a small (domestic) truck. The full size would be cheaper, get better milage, and have MUCH more utility.

Exactly. That's why Colorado/Canyon sales are down compared to the model it replaced.
