Well Done Janet. The silvery substance is not a good sign as something is wearing out.
It is bearing/bushing residue.
Send this entire Thread to your dutiful Husband and take the phone off the hook for tonite!

More whitish grey then silverish after taking a look with some good lighting but I still am concerned.
Not going to bother him with it now, it can sit till he gets back.

Whitish grey sounds like only water contamination. If flushing the system got rid of that, I don't think you have a problem.

You might drain a small test sample after a month.
