Might look at one of these tractors. guy wants 3 g's, has a loader. 1100 hrs.

anything to look for in particular, or should I just run away? it's 4wd, looks to be in decent shape.

thanks

With loader, that may not be a bad price.

1) Look for obvious leaks and determine ease of repairing them. ESPECIALLY check steering for excessive play at the tie rod ends, drag link and at each wheel steering pivot next to the front wheels. That loader will put a lot of stress on the front end that wasn't originally designed for one. Check for gear lube in the front axle housing...there should be a square fill plug on the top. Look inside and see if there is lube (not grease) half-way covering the axle inside (proper amount in my TS1610F). No lube, expect to do replacement seal and bearing work. Look for lube leaks on the inside surface of the front wheels. Problems like that are fixable but are more than an afternoon only type job, will probably take some machine ship work with the plain bearings (bushings).

2) Start it up from cold, see how easily it starts. Is there smoke after it gets warmed up? That could just be fuel adjustment (not a problem), or blue smoke could be rings (not good).

3) Drive around checking for smooth but positive clutch operation and fairly quiet gear noise, make sure the 3-pt lifts OK. The transmission gears will be noisier backing up, that's normal (on mine anyway).

If all of that checks out, it's probably an ok deal. I know about the front end rebuilding because I had to do it, it took me awhile to get all the parts and everything back together.

Thanks for the tips !

So they're generally a decent little machine I guess, tough to find a ton of info on them, I found a website talking about parts availability, and from the sounds of it, it's not too bad with these.

( unlike the two old mitsubishis for sale locally)

Not cast in stone that I'll be getting it, but 3g's is about what I want to spend, and I definately need a loader.

other options are old ford n series, lots of them around cheap, but a bit bigger than I'd like, and I'm not into spark plugs...:p

I'm pretty familiar with diesels, so I know what to look for there, what color the cold start up smoke is ,being one of the better indicators.

I'm up in canada, and sounds like importing a tractor is a bit of a hassle, so I'll probably have to go down to the states and check out whatever I'm looking at first, then go back down and pick it up later.

Otherwise, I'd have gone down with the truck and just loaded it up. So, at least this way I have more time for a thorough checkover.

cheers,
ryan
