I have a number of 1/4” & 3/8” hydraulic hoses to make and was wondering if anyone makes an affordable crimp machine that won’t break the bank. Reusable ends seem to be very limited to find. I had NAPA make two 27” long hoses for me the other day with 1/2” male npt on both ends at a cost of $60.00 each which seems pricey to me. Anyone here make their own hydraulic hoses?

Probably be a good idea to define "affordable". There can be many hundreds or thousands of dollars of variation in how different individuals define that word.

I don’t really want to spend over a grand if I can get away with it.

To me a tool is worth getting if having one of my own saves a good amount of time (vs renting one) and/or money (vs buying what i can make myself with the tool).

With that metric, a backhoe was determined to be worth it (doing a rental is expensive and an hour+ round-trip not including rental yard time), but a tire changing machine isn't (I almost never have to swap tires so paying to have it done isn't bad, not to mention storing equipment that I almost never use).

How many hoses do you need to make, and how much time & money would having the ability to make your own custom houses save?

Would seem to start at about $100 and go up.... Try a "search" using the search string "hydraulic hose crimp tool"....

Then there is this.....

Would seem to me "affordable" is related to how many hoses you intend to make, obviously a more expensive, better quality becomes more affordable tool is in relationship to how well it lasts after a large series of crimps...

Keep in mind the one from Vevor is for AC lines that work at much less pressures than hydraulic systems.

I have an old Weatherhead machine I've had for years. It still does everything I need it to. They don't come up for sale every day and aren't cheap. The one listed below looks like about the least expensive one I've seen yet, and comes with a good assortment of dies. I think there would be a learning curve for getting the proper crimp dimensions considering the various hose and fitting manufacturers dimensions, but at first glance it looks to be a "homeowner quality" machine that would probably get the job done on a limited use basis. If I were in the market for one I would seriously consider it.

Discount hydraulic hoses has a few crimping machines and dies;
Hose Crimpers & Tools

Also I believe that they have a program were when you buy some hose and fittings they provide the crimping machine, it's not what I would call cheap but if you are doing enough hoses it may be worth while.

This is that program in collaboration with Tractor Time with Tim;
