I screwed up a pair of my wife's scissors, and now I need a way to loosen the rivet that holds the two pieces together. I know it's not a tractor, but hopefully the concept is universal enough that you'll forgive me for posting a sewing question on the tractor web site.

The were quite loose when I was sharpening them, so I took them to the anvil and gave a few light taps with a small hammer. Apparently one tap would have been enough because they are toooo tight now. If I could just loosen the rivet a slight bit it would be enough.

To loosen the spacing or rivit a small amount I use a feeler gauge by placing between each 1/2 then close slowly to force the rivit to release the over tightening. if not enough add shims to increase .
Should work. Be careful when using a hammer to make small adjustments.

Just exercise them. Add a little oil to make it easier.

Just tell your wife she needs to develop stronger hands!! Then duck out of the way very quickly!

If you open them to 90 degees and lay them in the vice so the lower blade is in the jaws and the top blade is across then give the lower blade a ***LIGHT***tap:thumbsup:

My favorite recent kid quote:
I was teasing my 9-year-old daughter that my new Oliver 70 project tractor was her project...
"All right!" She said, "We're going to need some pink spray paint!"
I told her that if she could get the thing running I'd paint it pink.

I love that quote but be carefull if she spends as much time in the shop as my little girl goes you may regret that statment:D

Thanks for the advice on both the scissors and the daughter. I remember fondly the time I spent with my dad working. I'd love for my kids to "help" me as much as they will. If I never get anything done but spend time with my kids, I will have done enough.
