Taking delivery of a new 2720 within a few weeks and have heard issues with weak buckets and a redesign beefed up newer plate bucket vs roller steel.

I am ordering the 61" bucket. Does the newer plate steel bucket have a different part number then the previous rolled steel bucket? Is this a change you can see and if so any clues how to tell?

Will the HD 300cx bucket fit the 200cx loader?

Thanks for the info during this purchase phase.

Heavy enough for what? The 61" bucket is already larger than the standard 53" so it's a bit weaker but designed for large, light loads. If you're planning on moving heavy stuff you may want to take a look at downsizing the bucket size (smaller buckets are stronger and won't overwhelm your loader capacity). If you're digging in the dirt as opposed to moving materials you may also want a heavy duty smaller bucket with a toothbar. Or you may want multiple buckets to match the tool to the job.

I have never heard of any "issues", I think the re-design was for cost savings for JD.

It will, the mounting tabs and pins are the same. However I do not think you need a HD bucket on your new machine unless you are using it commercially move stone or rocks everyday.

My personal opinion is that the 61" bucket would be a little big for digging with the 2720. The 2720 has about 400psi more lift than my 2305 and a 61" on my 2305 I feel would be too much except for very light stuff.

The buckets are interchangeable between the 200CX, 300CX, and 400CX. I have a 3720 and a 2305 and I have a pallet fork I swap and have (just for laughs) but my 61" HD bucket for my 300CX on the 2305/200CX. It would probably work well for snow removal or light stuff like bark mulch though.

I've done digging with my 53" bucket on my 2305 and I can see how if I was digging in real rocky stuff I could bang it up but it's not too bad.

Not to split hairs here-But the 400CX is a little diferent, the hook-to-pin spacing is about 3" more. Width is the same.

But the 200CX, 300CX, as well as the older 210, 410, 420, 430 use all the same attachments.

Here's my 2520 with a 61" bucket. I installed the toothbar from the 300 series bucket. It works great, and has shown no signs of wear. The bucket has not suffered from the extra work either.

Hiya,

I don't see how the 61" material bucket would be damaged in normal use with the 2x20/200 loader platform. The 200 series loaders don't really make enough force to bend them (improper hook/chain use aside) and the tractor is light enough that the loader already flicks it around.

I could see damage from ramming things trying to break them out of the soil (stump, rocks) but I would think the masts/arms would take the brunt of that force. (except the wear edge maybe)

I had a look at the old/new buckets side by side. The first thing that struck me was that Deere may have gone with the plate steel style to automate production. Flat pieces are easier for machines to index and autoweld then curved.

My 2 cents,

Tom

Kenny:

Your right. My grapple fits them all (Can't use it on the 2305 but it fits..) but does have extra holes to fit the 400CX. :)

I bought a 2320 this spring with a 200cx loader. When it came time for delivery, the 61 bucket didn't come in on time so my dealer gave me a 61-HD
bucket from a 3000 series machine. I was initially concerned because of the extra weight on the HD bucket but it lifts just fine, even wet heavy sand.
The HD bucket fits well and it will always look good. The only concern for these machines is adequate ballast. A full load up front can get hairy if the ground is not level. Be careful, wear your seatbelt and keep the Rops up!
Good luck.
Greg.

I have a 61 on my 2520. I had a machine shop weld a piece of square tubing all the way across the top of the bucket, and weld hooks onto there.
The thick-wall tubing is WAY thicker than the JD material, and i have the top of the bucket/square tubing bent down a bit already from pulling on it/lifting logs. I'm sure glad they added the extra metal and didn't just weld the hooks onto the lip of the bucket!
