Massey Ferguson 1260
Hey folks,

Have a question about my Ferguson 1260. Past two winters we have a a low power/no power issue with the tractor in the colder weather. The tractor has a working block heater and starts without a hick-up. I allow adequate warm up time before use. After a few minutes of driving around the tractor seems to enter a "limp mode" and I can't seem to figure out why. What I've done: Proper use of winter additives, changed all filters/fluids and ensured a clean radiator and pre-screen. The air filter and pre-filter have been changed as well. I'm leaning towards an injector issue but I can't figure out why it runs like a top all summer and craps out in the winter. Any help would be so greatly appreciated.

Even with the additives sounds like you’re getting fuel gelling. I’m no expert but have had an old diesel Ford and my tractor. Sounds like from what you describe it uses the fuel up from the filter first then tries to pull from the main tank and the fuel is too thick. Your engine is starving for fuel. Maybe you have some type of blockage in the fuel line. In hot temps no problem thinned out fuel but when cold it is like thick syrup in the fuel lines. You say additives but what are you using? Are you buying winter diesel or are you trying to use up what you had left over from summer fuel first.

I've found with my 1533, I have to use almost 5 times the recommended dose of Power Service to keep the filter from gelling. Can't figure that out, it works just fine in my trucks using the same fuel.

Is your fuel line from the tank rubber or metal? I've seen some discussion on other boards of rubber fuel lines swelling internally with age. They look OK from the outside, but the passage inside is too small.

I've seen this before in a multitude of other applications. in warm weather the swollen line will still let fuel through but when cold it is too stiff and the swell restricts too much fuel.
