I have a new JD X300 and am still getting used to it since it only has 3 hours on it.

One thing I've noticed is that it moves fairly slowly in reverse compared to going forward. It also seems to have much less torque when going in reverse, and in particular, if you are backing up on even a slight incline.

Just wondering if this is a normal characteristic of the K46 transaxle?

Thanks.

Hydrostatic right?

Designed to have less reverse speed by the length of the reverse pedal. On my 4xx's I lengthened the height of the reverse pedal to get more speed. I suspect it is a safety thought they had in mind. Annoyed me until I modified the reverse pedal.

Get on the floor on the foot peddle side of the tractor.(right)
Look underneath at the two peddles,(forward and reverse) you will see a nut and bolt, some times you need to adjust them two bolts.
You would loosen the bolt and then push or pull on the peddle, then retighten the bolt.
It may be very tight, mine was.

Your right on Mark. My X500 would hardly move in reverse when I brought it home. Moved the pedel deal and now it flies.

Yup, it seems like it is always a reverse thing.
Any way, I hope the guy gets it fixed:thumbsup:

Thanks Markcuda, I made the adjustment you described on the reverse pedal this afternoon and it made a big difference.

Good information, thanks. For me; I need that little extra "margin of safety"!

I usually start backing up before I "completely" assess just exactly what's behind or beside me.... so, going slower is generallya good thing and I can make course corrections before hitting the dog!!! :D
