Is Anyone\'s Fueling Truly Dripless?

There sure seems to be a lot of posts regarding gas cans, gas spouts, and fuel transfer in general.

These days of $3.00+/gal for the various types of fuel (especially the two-cycle variety -$3.00+ oil /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif) I hate to see even a drop end up where it shouldn't be.

Does anyone have a consistent, idiot-proof, dripless, fueling method that works...regardless of what you're fueling?

What is the answer? Are there multiple solutions to the problem?
Is a funnel the answer?

Is This it?

Are these spouts the answer?

These guys claim to be leakproof. Yeah, right.
They claim to be "the best". Maybe with with one of these NoSpill AutoStop nozzles, it would be a different story.
Our military specs these fuel cans.

I thought these were cool, but, they leak like a sieve...drip, drip, drip...

Maybe the EPA types probably want us to use these.

Those guys that use these don't care if they spill fuel. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

(this is me when ever I'm trying to fuel up ____ (fill in blank) and watching those pennies drip on to the ground - only to evaporate)

I guess I'd better STOP venting, or spilling, or dripping on this subject. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I haven't spilled a drop since I installed a 275 gallon tank and electric pump! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Better yet I'm still paying the price per gallon from 6 months ago.

I just position my feet under the dripping spout when filling. That way I don't have to use paint thinner to clean the grease off my feet and sandals that I acquired from working on something earlier /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Is Anyone\'s Fueling Truly Dripless?

I've tried the on/off spouts and found them cumbersome; especially with large gas cans. You're trying to hold the can with one hand and twist a nozzle with the other. Then twist it back when the tank is full. I have found going slow and a good funnel is hard to beat.

Although the last couple of times I have filled up the tractor and the riding mower when the gas can was full by using a cheap siphon I think I got at wally world. I sit the full can on the hood and place the siphon tube in the can and the hose in the tank. A few pumps on the hand pump and fuel starts flowing. I open up the air valve on the hand pump when the tank is almost full and nothing spilled. Although there is some fuel in the siphon, maybe a teaspoon full, but no where near as much if I missed the tank trying to maneuver a full gas can.

Re: Is Anyone\'s Fueling Truly Dripless?

I have actually found one that works pretty well for spillage.

The nozzle goes on pretty tight and it locks shut. Only when you push the nozzle in does the fuel start to flow. Admittedly, the fill rate is really slow.

The good thing about them is that when you take pressure off the nozzle it really stops the flow. I like them because I can let my wife use them to fill the riding lawn mower, trimmer, leaf blower, etc without fear of her spilling gallons of gas.

Not sure who makes it but its pretty nice.

All right, no one likes a showoff! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

HomeBrew2,
Now I know you've missed the point...(~grin~ notwithstanding)
The price of this stuff being what it is, we the public should not use this nickle and dime junk that leaks like a sieve to dispense fuel.
The manufacturers of those fuel cans should fix their products to where they don't leak. I'd hate to get gov't beaureaucrats involved, but this stuff bad for the enviroment, dangerous, and bad for your skin. Fueling equipment (portable cans etc.) should have to have some sort of certifications to prove that they meet certain standards....like leaking. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Just venting... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

It does make filling a none chore.. I have the 12volt medium duty(yellow) from NortherTool.. run the electric from a 12volt deep cycle marine battery inside a shed.. so when I'm done filling.. I disconnect the power.. shed stays locked. I last filled my tank in Jan. 2005.. high sulfer off road was $1.75.. had to get it filled last week.. $2.68.. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif this is hitting the farmers hard because harvesting uses a lot of fuel.
