Hi all
I can remember seeing small rollers for compacting lawns. If I remember right we could fill with water. I have a Mahindra 4110. After spreading gravel, I wondered if there is a roller that could be weighted down with water and be capable of doing an OK job? Does anyone know of such an animal?

I just drive back and fourth a bunch of times with the tractor. It’s likely faster than dealing with a roller and definitely does a better job than a dinky roller.

I have the same issue .. a 3500' gravel/rock drive that needs a serious compaction.

To be effective, I think the roller needs to be much heavier than anything my Kioti DK50 could manage. I need to bring in another 10 dump truck loads and get it spread - then I'll call a local company that does gravel/asphalt work. I'd rather pay them to do it right than to waste my time and money.

Poly rollers are available from Tractor Supply, Lowe's and Home Depot web sites.

Buy a roller only wide enough to cover area between tractor's rear tires. The tractor's tires will have more weight per unit of contact than any poly roller.

The poly roller shown in photo has been moderately useful on my lawn. Packs seed and packs top soil and sawdust added to low areas OK. Will not flatten high spots.

I doubt any poly roller will survive gravel.

I tried to buy this one a little while ago. Made an offer and never heard anything back. Another thing, that no one else on my block would have had.

A ballast roller that I have... the aerating spikes are removable. It's water filled + I added some anti-freeze just in case.

Remember, moisture content of the material is the key to getting good compaction

I tried to get one like that as well, but none in the area, and ones I did find were much to big. I'm looking at building one with a section of pipe, plate to close the ends, rod for an axle, and oak bearings. The pad feet can be short sections of pipe (2-3 inches) long cut in half to make 2 semi circular pieces welded to the drum.
