hi -- another newbie question.
in terms of resale value is a Kubota cab worth the extra money? I'm told they have to be ordered with the tractor

Are there any good 3rd party cabs for a m4900 or m5700?

what about manuverability issues in the woods? other disadvantages?

thanks
josh

After enjoying my L4200 Kubota with a cab, I would never consider a tractor without… BUT you do have to be aware of roof and glass around trees… visibility can be reduced by ice snow…

Is it worth it…? Warm in the winter, Cool A/C in summer, Clean and Dry AND quiet all year, you will not have instrument, switches or other components fading/failing because of occasional exposure to rain/snow or UV sun… Yea, I think it’s really worth it. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gifThe Kubota cab is excellent and you do have to get the cab with the tractor… you can add after market cabs ‘not quite as nice as factory’ KennyV.

YES. Definitely worth the money. You don't see too many cars built like in the early 1900's do you? They were all open air cars. Same thing, but it only took tractors a few more decades to catch on. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

No

Unless you enjoy bashing your ROPS on trees, there really isn't any difference with the cab; except, or course, you are comfortable and are not being covered in dirt, dust, or being bitten by bugs. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I do not have a cab. So you can take my comments with a grain of salt. On the small BX2200 the cab is 3K +. That is about one third of the tractor, mower anf FEL. That makes it a heck of an expensive option. I saw on your other post that a cab for the tractor you are looking at is 7K on a 26K tractor. Again a heck of a ratio.

But the choice is yours. You have a lot more land than I so probably a lot more seat time. My worst environmental condition is plowing snow. Takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. I do it in Walmart ski pants, a jacket and a cowboy hat - total invested is probably 125 bucks (mostly the hat).

Good luck with what ever you choose.

To answer your question Yes it is worth the extra money.
You will never regret getting the cab!!!! It takes all the sweat out of those hot summer days. I finish mow 9 acres and feel like a million bucks after 5 hours of mowing. With the A/C set to re circulate you can not even smell the fresh cut grass or here the rear finish mower because the cab seals off all that noise. If you have severe allergies like I do, the cab is the best allergy medicine you can buy.

I'm watching the grass grow right now just waiting for the chance to mow again....

So, you can't add an air conditioned cab after the purchase? The dealer is unable to order a Factory Cab and install it? Just curious, since I did not know this. I guess if I want A/C, I will have to buy a new tractor? I don't mind a new tractor, but my wife will have a field day with my request. I can hear her now, "What do you mean you have to buy a new tractor to get A/C? Just go an drink more water when its hot!" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks,

Joe… I’m afraid you are right. It is not practicle to put A/C in an add on cab, and you can’t put a factory cab on one that was not built for it... As to drinking more water when its hot… IN FLORIDA??? You can’t drink that much water /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, I have experienced your hot /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif… YOU really need A/C /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif… Good Luck, KennyV

Yes, it is worth the extra money if you value comfort, resale and safety. Kubota charges a fair price for their cabs and they are top notch IMO.

I worked a couple of hours in a big Kubota with cab yesterday, and REALLY enjoyed the AC and dust-free environemnt. That's the first time I ever drove in a cab, and I was very uncomfortable in it. I couldn't stand up and peek at the FEL, for 1 thing. It was hard to detect engine loading too. Little cues you need to feel and hear when doing serious FEL work were absent. Grab bars were absent too, which was uncomfortable on slopes. The owner showed up and ran the Kubota, and I finished the day eating dust on my non-cab blue tractor. Within 2 hours I was covered head to toe in a crust of caked on dust. I think I can get used to a cab, so my next tractor will have one if I can afford it.

PS: No problem with maneuverability. It's really no bigger than the ROPS.
