Title says all it's on flat ground but the grass is thick and over the hood of the tractor.

It will make it work first pass after that you could take shallower cuts.

I run 5 ft on my tractor with 20 PTO HP and have not stalled it yet. HST is nice since can easily adjust speed

If the ground is flat you should have enough power to turn the mower. You may have to proceed slowly the first time or two. On hilly ground I'd worry about the weight of the mower versus the weight of the tractor. If you don't have a front loader you may need some weights on the front.

You'll be fine. Remember to have the front of the bush hog lower than the back.
Butting will be eased by raising the deck to max height, and you certainly don't have to engage the whole 60" in cutting. Take 30" swipes, if necessary.

Do you have the B2650 now?

Buying a tractor and mower that you know will have to cut only a 30" swathe width does not make sense to me. Maybe ......for one acre, but for more than one acre buy a tractor with at least 33-horsepower.

The 'Bs' are a little tippy. I owned one which I mowed with. There may be surprises lurking within that TALL grass.

BUY ENOUGH TRACTOR!

No i do not own one now. I seen one for sale is why i asked about it.

I have 17 acres of field to bush hog twice a year to keep it looking nice it's mostly open and 4,5 acres of yard to mow. I inherited the land from my uncle.

I thought a 72" bush hog would be better for the fields and i don't know for the yards. Yes i have two houses now and two yards to mow and pay tax on! yay!

Friends say just buy a tractor and a zero turn. I would like to go all tractor if i could. My uncle used a 46" cub cadet for the yard which i have now and a larger tractor for the fields that was sold to pay off some things.

He also has a long gravel driveway that needs work. In the winter it tends to drift with snow but we don't get that much anymore. The only stuff left is the cub cadet and a rear blade 3pt and a 72" front QA blade so he must of had a kubota QA tractor.

When i was a kid i helped him so i am no stranger to tractors but that was 20 years ago. It used to be a small farm with cows and turkey houses. He was un-able to make a profit all that is gone and in the past.

Forgot to add that i did drive the B2650 and it was fine i liked the seat and arms rest and tilt steering made it easy to get on and off. It was the ROPS one so i am fine with that.

Here is a mowing calculator:

If your land is fairly flat and fairly smooth you may be able to mow at 5-mph.
A 72" bush hog will mow 3 to 3-1/4 acres per hour @ 5-mph, seven hours to mow 17 acres with a break or two and fueling, cutting full mower width.

Flat ground but the grass is thick and over the hood of the tractor.
(( A 60" light duty bush hog cutting 30" swathe @ 4-mph behind a B2650 cuts one (1) acre per hour. The tractor will be running at full throttle to power the mower. ))

35 horsepower will power a Light Duty 72" Rotary Mower
45 horsepower will power a Heavy Duty 72" Rotary Mower
