Having received the parts book for my Yanmar AF22 and ordered some engine (3TNS82RA) parts, the (official) Yanmar dealer told me this engine is mainly a 3TN82 clone. Does anybody on the board has a 3TN82 parts book to compare ?

Thank you for your help,

Phil

I have 16 different 3TN82 series parts manuals but they all have letters after them. I believe the 3TN82 is the basic block and the letters after indicate water pump, hyd pump, timing cover, etc options. Letters between the T and the 82 seem to usually be different blocks (liners vs no liner, etc). Any certain part you would like for me to compare?

Aaron,
Thank you for your answer. I will post very soon some parts references (block, head etc..). Maybe you can cross them for me with parts from others 3TN82 engines.

What is interesting in this engine is the following thing :

-tractor AF22 has a 3TNS82-RA engine and is rated 22 HP at 2500 rpm.
-tractor AF24 has a 3TNS82-RN engine and is rated 24 HP at 2500 rpm.
I wonder how the same engine can have two different powers !

Then, they are two variants of this engines powering powershift AF22 and powershift AF24 (if I remember something like 3TNS82-RAHC and 3TNS82-RNHC)

The purpose of my question is to know if I can get some spare parts from Yanmar engine dealers in France who sell the basic engine 3TN82. So what I need is a part manual for this basic engine.

Regards,

Phil

It is common for an engine to have various hp ratings. Usually small differences are made by changes in fuel flow by the injector pump.

Len is exactly right here. For example, current production Mack Trucks engines range in HP from 300 to 480 and use the same basic block. There are differences primarily in the fuel injection system and turbochargers to obtain this range of HP all from 12L displacement engine.

Here are some Yanmar references for tractor AF22 engine 3TNS82-RA :

Block 729003-01560
Head gasket 129002-01330 (fiber gasket)
Head gasket 129002-01331 (metallic gasket)
Head 729202-11700 (first reference)
Head 729001-11700 (new reference)
Air filter element 119808-12520
Oil filter 129150-35151
Fuel filter element 129100-55650

Any cross reference of others 3TN82 engines including these parts will be welcome

The only part that I found a direct cross over to (other than the filters) is the metallic head gasket (129002-01331) that also fits-->

3TNE84-RNY
3TNE84-RSR
3TNE84-NRE

Notice that they are all 84mm engines. Are you sure yours is a 82mm?

Aaron,

Thank you very much for your answer.
I confirm that the reference for the metallic head gasket comes directely from the Yanmar Parts book for this tractor and engine (3TNS82RA).

It is very strange as :

1) I took off the head of the engine and it was factory fitted with the same gasket (written on it the number "84") showing you are right about the cross references you gave me.

2) On the same parts book the engine is rated 82mm x 90mm

So I don't understand how an engine rated 82 mm could accept a gasket rated 84 mm. Have you ever heard about such a situation ? Maybe more than a clone of 3TN82 the engine 3TNS82RA is an hybrid between 3TN*82 and 3TNE84.

Some friends on the board can give us their opinion about this ?

The only thing common is that they are Yanmar 3 cylinder engines & have an 82mm bore. The letters between the 3 & 82 designate the engine family.

So, a 82mm vs. 84mm.

Yes, an 84mm hole can fit over an 82mm hole with no issues. (not the other way). For a diameter, that's a mere 1mm around the perimeter. So, YES is the answer, the 84 can fit on an 82.

My years working at GM shows that a 307CI and a 305CI engine are also basically the same, just one is made for Pontiac at the time and the other for Chevy. Lots of parts are interchangeable, but like the gaskets, one will fit both and the other will only fit one.

Not sure of the Yanmar engines the 82 vs. 84, if one is sleeved and the other not? Or both are sleeved. Thus, the gasket of 84 works to your benefit.

Yes, having a Part Catalog for your specific tractor and engine type is a real necessity. :) Aaron can help you with this hopefully.

With my YM2610, it shares parts with several other Yanmars and John Deere's.
